How Altium Packaging automated payroll across Canada and the US
The early days of implementing Workday can be incredibly daunting. With a new HR system comes new processes and ways of operating as a team.
Viky Delisle, payroll manager for Canada at Altium Packaging, felt this firsthand when they went live with Workday in 2019. She was new to the platform and navigating constantly shifting regulations on top of that unease. Canadian payroll comes with its own federal and provincial rules: T4s, RL-1s, and tax code requirements that don’t apply anywhere else.

“The first year, I was new and didn’t know the platform at all,” Viky recalls. The challenge was learning Workday while staying compliant with Quebec regulations that most payroll services don’t specialize in or deeply understand.
What made OneSource Virtual (OSV) the right fit was their approach to Altium’s multi-jurisdictional operations. Rather than applying a standard payroll automation template, they started by understanding the specific regulations Viky was navigating across provinces and states. For companies pursuing global payroll outsourcing across various jurisdictions, this specialized knowledge is a meaningful differentiator. OSV’s expertise in Canadian payroll services proved invaluable to Viky and her team.
OSV’s payroll automation tools caught what most providers miss. They sent detailed error reports in July, September, November, and December, flagging potential payroll errors before they became emergencies. By January 8, every T4 and RL-1 was accurate and locked — the year-end processing that previously took a minimum of 80 hours now takes two.
The shift from manual processes to proactive payroll automation is what scaling across borders looks like. As Altium continues expanding their global payroll outsourcing operations, they know year-end won’t become a constraint.
