How QAD Decided What Processes to Outsource
While many business tasks are non-negotiable, it’s important to distinguish between the tasks that are essential and the tasks that are strategic. Just because a task is essential, that doesn’t mean your team needs to handle it in-house. Often, the more tactical a task is, the better it is to hand off to a group of experts who specialize in exactly that kind of work.
That was QAD's realization as they went through that process. As a global manufacturing software company, QAD had a long list of required processes — payroll compliance, benefits administration, Workday application support — but not all of them deserved the same level of internal attention.
“Was it really a strategic value add for us to process garnishments?” Levett Washington, VP of People Services and Total Rewards at QAD, recalls asking as they began their partnership with OneSource Virtual (OSV). “Was it really a strategic add for us to process interfaces from Workday to our 401(k) provider?”
Some work creates value for the business. Some work just has to get done. A good partner handles the latter so you can focus on the former. For QAD, that meant trusting OSV with the Workday tasks that were necessary but not core to their mission. Doing this freed their team to focus on work that actually moves the business forward.
“It became very obvious to us that supporting the Workday application was something we could hand to another partner while we provide the strategic direction.”
Watch Levett explain QAD's decision in his own words.
